Maori tattoo art

All maori tattoos and art have a meaning. Different shapes mean different things.

These are a few shapes and what they mean.

This is a moko. this was traditionally worn by only the chiefs or people high up there. In older times the Maori used chisels made from Albatross bone and soot from burnt kauri gum. Now it is normally done as any other tattoo. Moko's represent a persons story or heritage in their life.
