Marae
A Marae also known as a meeting house is a very sacred place in the maori culture. Each different tribe has a Marae of their own. It is a very sacred and respective place. The earliest Maori chief will be carved on the front of the Marae and ancestors on the sides. Powhiri's take place on marae's when someone is visiting. then they go into the Wharenui to introduce themselves and talk about their heritage. Marae normally have long wooden fences boarding their land now. At Marae nowdays their is sometimes kitchens. There are also hangi sights.
